Koh Samui Night Markets: The Real Schedule

Every koh samui night markets list online reads the same: five bullet points, no days, no order, written by someone who has never actually stood in the queue for pad thai wondering if they picked the wrong night. We have. Here's the actual schedule, and which one is worth putting pants on for.

Fisherman's Village, Bophut: Monday, Wednesday, Friday

This is the one. Bophut closes its old teak-shophouse street to traffic and the whole strip turns into stalls, satay smoke, and live music spilling out of the bars either side. It runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, roughly 5pm to 11pm, and Friday is the main night, the one every guide and every local agrees is worth prioritising if you only pick one.

If you only do one night market on the island, do this one on a Friday. It's the best-looking street on Samui after dark, and it's the one every local actually goes to, not just the one every hotel blog copies from every other hotel blog. Lamai Night Market, Beach Road: every night

Lamai's version runs on Beach Road nightly, same 5pm-to-11pm window, no day-of-the-week gamble required. It's grittier than Fisherman's Village, more stalls selling flip-flops and phone cases next to the food, and a genuinely good spread of grilled skewers and fresh seafood if you're staying on the south side.

Chaweng Lake Night Market: Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Tucked behind the Chaweng Lake / Central Festival strip, this is a food-court-style setup rather than a walking street, quieter, more local, and open Thursday through Saturday from about 4:30pm to 10pm. It's the one to pick if Fisherman's Village or Lamai sound like too much crowd and you just want good food without the performance of it. Nathon Night Market: check before you go

Nathon is the port town on the west side, the one you pass through on the ferry, and its market is the least consistent of the four. Different local guides give different nights for it, which tells you the honest answer: it moves around more than the others and isn't worth building a whole evening plan on. If you're already in Nathon waiting on a ferry, wander the street and see what's set up. Don't drive across the island specifically for it.

What you're actually eating

The food doesn't change much between markets, it's the same stall-row staples everywhere on the island, we've covered the full spread in our Koh Samui street food guide. Expect gai yang grilled over charcoal, skewers of pork, roti folded around banana, and mango sticky rice done slightly differently at every single stall, argue about the coconut cream ratio all you like. Chaweng Lake's version leans harder into the food-court format, som tam and mango sticky rice on rotation. Lamai's is scrappier and more deep-fried, less souvenir stall, more duck pancake off the griddle. None of it needs a menu. Point, nod, hand over notes.

Which one should you actually go to

Fisherman's Village on a Friday, then Lamai on any other night you're near the south coast. Chaweng Lake if you want the food without the crowd. That's the order we send our own guests, and it hasn't let anyone down yet. From Chaweng Noi, Fisherman's Village is about a 20-minute drive, the same run as the airport it sits near. Lamai's Beach Road market is the closer option if you don't feel like the trip north.

None of these need a booking, a plan, or shoes nicer than sandals. Eat, wander, come back to the villa, rinse the smoke smell off in the pool. That's the whole system.
