Food Delivery in Koh Samui: The Night-In Guide for Villa People
Food delivery in Koh Samui, from locals: Grab and LINE MAN are the apps, foodpanda is gone, and how to pin a villa so the rider actually finds you.
May · November 6, 2026

Food delivery in Koh Samui works. Mostly. It works the way a holiday romance works: brilliantly when the conditions are right, and confusingly the moment it rains or you wander too far from town. We live in Chaweng Noi and run a villa here, and the single most common question after "where's the beach" is "can we just get dinner brought to us tonight." Yes. Here's how, without the twenty minutes of staring at a spinning app.
Food delivery in Koh Samui: the short answer
Download Grab and LINE MAN. That's it. Those are the two apps that matter in Thailand right now. When foodpanda quit the country, LINE MAN Wongnai held 44% of the market and GrabFood 39.4%, and this year's guides still name those two first.
If someone tells you to use foodpanda, smile politely. It stopped operating in Thailand on 23 May 2025, after 13 years. Plenty of guides never got the memo, including at least one villa company's restaurant guide published this October. The Reddit poster who'd "heard FoodPanda is no longer working" on Samui heard right.
Grab: the one you already have
If you've taken a Grab car on the island, you already have the delivery app. Same account, tap Food instead of Transport. Grab takes cash, cards and its own GrabPay wallet, though some restaurants and promo deals are cashless only, so have a card loaded.
Plenty of the island's cafés list on Grab. MonAmi Cafe in Bangrak does its breakfasts, bagels and cakes on Grab from 7am to 6pm. The Hub, a café in Lamai, delivers via Grab to Lamai, Maret, Hua Thanon, Na Mueang and, happily for us, Chaweng Noi. Its kitchen closes at 7pm.
The catch, and MonAmi says this itself with refreshing honesty: Grab changes its delivery radius dynamically. A place that delivers to you at lunch may vanish off your screen at dinner. That's not the app being broken. It's an island, and the number of kitchens inside your radius is simply smaller than it is in Bangkok.
LINE MAN: the one to keep beside it
LINE MAN says it operates across all 77 provinces, and its strength in Thailand is deep local restaurant choice, the Thai places that never bothered with an English menu. Install both. When one app shows you three options and a burger joint, the other often shows you the noodle shop down the road.
Search in Thai as well as English if you can manage it. Not everyone translated their listing.
Robinhood, the Thai app foodpanda pointed its customers to on the way out, is still a Bangkok app for practical purposes. Don't count on it here.
The local option: KOHME
There's also KOHME, a small app built specifically for Thai islands. It currently serves Koh Tao, Koh Lanta and Koh Samui, and the company is registered in Maret, near Lamai. Worth a download as a third net. Coverage and restaurant lists change, so check it on the night rather than trusting anyone's list, including ours.
Restaurants that deliver themselves
Some places skip the apps and run their own delivery, which often means fewer middleman fees.
- Noori India takes orders through its own website and delivers to Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut and nearby areas. You enter your address at checkout to see if you're in range, and pay online. - Hot Point Restaurant, the Israeli and Mediterranean place, does free delivery to Chaweng, Bophut and Bangrak on orders over 300 baht.
Some places take orders straight on WhatsApp or LINE (The Hub does pickup pre-orders that way), so if you've got a favourite from a night out, ask the staff before you leave.
What it costs
Nobody publishes a rate card, and anyone quoting you an exact delivery fee to the baht is guessing. Distance is the main driver. Rain is the reliable multiplier. Expect service and small-order fees on top.
Here's the bit that annoys people: app prices are often higher than menu prices. Grab's restaurant commission runs about 30 to 35%, so restaurants mark up in the app. Your 60-baht bowl of noodles reads 75 baht on screen. Still cheap. Just not the price on the laminated menu.
If you'll order more than a couple of times, GrabUnlimited costs 19 baht a month and knocks up to 15 baht off orders over a minimum spend. Two orders and it's paid for itself.
For what a meal costs when you go out instead, our Koh Samui trip cost breakdown has the baht figures.
How to get a rider to your villa
This is where villa people lose their dinner. A hotel has a lobby. A villa has a gate on a soi that Google Maps has only a rough opinion about.
Do this once and save it:
1. Drop the pin on your actual gate, not the middle of the estate and not the road. 2. Write the full address in the note: estate name, villa number, the soi, and a neighbouring landmark. "Villa 15, next to the white villa, Soi 4" gets dinner delivered. "The villa with the pool" does not. Everyone has a pool. 3. Add a meeting instruction. "Meet at the gate" or "meet at the 7-Eleven on the main road" saves three phone calls. 4. Keep your phone on. Riders message. Translate and answer fast. 5. Carry small notes. Riders don't always have change for a 1,000.
Tipping isn't expected but is appreciated, especially when someone just rode through a monsoon with your pad kra pao.
Ask your host for the delivery address they give guests. A good villa host has one ready to paste.
The late-night problem
Nationwide coverage doesn't mean forty restaurants will deliver at nine on a Tuesday. The cafés above stop by early evening, and the choice on the apps shrinks as the night goes on. Order dinner by eight and you'll have options. Order at eleven and you'll have a 7-Eleven.
Delivery or the supermarket?
Delivery is for the nights nobody wants to cook or drive. For everything else, stocking the fridge on day one is cheaper and calmer. Our Koh Samui supermarket guide covers where to shop for a villa kitchen.
And if you'd rather go out, Chaweng is seven minutes over the hill from us. Our best restaurants in Chaweng list and where locals eat will sort you out, and Grab will drive you there too.
